Welcome to Year 5!
We hope you have had a restful and enjoyable summer break.
We have hit the ground running this term with our World War 2 topic, and have already had a great learning opportunity with Mr History, who showed us the sights and sounds of the War.
A few reminders to help your child settle into Year 5.
• Swimming starts on Thursday 14th September 2017 for both classes. Please ensure your money and consent form has been returned to the school office.
• We have a Super Stars Sports coach in every Wednesday. For health and safety reasons your child needs an appropriate P.E kit and footwear in school.
• As part of our World War 2 topic, children will be ‘Digging for Victory’, and we will be setting up class allotments over the coming term.
We will be reading with your child on a daily basis, in both English and guided reading lessons. However, we do expect your child to be reading at home at least three times a week, and to be recorded in their reading diaries. If your child reads independently, please also sign to acknowledge this. Your child can read their reading book, bug club, or book from the library. Spellings will be handed out on a weekly basis. Your child will have the opportunity to learn these spellings in school, however it would be beneficial to discuss the meaning of these words and practice at home also. We will have a weekly timetables test (99 club), so lots of practice will be needed during the week. There will be an opportunity for a World War 2 project to be completed at home, once we have learnt a little more about the war. We are all looking forward to the year ahead. Please feel free to come and talk to us, if you need us.
Thank you for your support.
